Best Season

The most comfortable period to visit is September to February when temperatures range from 20-28 degrees Celsius. The post-monsoon landscape is lush and green, and the uphill walk is pleasant.

Festival Highlights

Visiting during a festival adds a deeply spiritual dimension. The caves glow with thousands of lamps and the air resonates with Vedic chanting.

  • Maha Shivaratri (Feb/Mar) -- All-night vigil, thousands of lamps, special abhishekam
  • Masa Shivaratri (Monthly) -- Special puja on every monthly Shivaratri
  • Karthika Pournami (Nov/Dec) -- Deep jyothi celebration under the full moon
  • Girija Kalyanam (Annual) -- Divine marriage ceremony of Shiva and Parvati

What to Wear & Carry

👕 What to Wear

  • Modest, traditional attire -- Saree, salwar kameez for women; dhoti, kurta, or formal trousers for men
  • Comfortable shoes for the 500-meter steep hill walk (removed at the cave entrance)
  • Avoid leather items -- belts, bags, and wallets with leather are not allowed inside the caves
  • Light, breathable fabrics recommended, especially during summer months

🎒 What to Carry

  • Water bottle -- Essential for the uphill walk, especially in warm weather
  • Umbrella or cap -- Protection from sun (summer) or rain (monsoon)
  • Small secure bag -- Keep belongings safe from monkeys along the hill path
  • Cash -- For offerings, donations, and local transportation if needed
  • Camera -- Photography allowed in outer areas (restricted near sanctum)

Your Journey

Step-by-Step Visit Flow

Arrive at Kailasagiri Hill Base

Drive from Bangalore (~80 km, 2-2.5 hours via Hosakote route). Look for the temple signage near Kavalaganahalli village.

Park Your Vehicle

Use the free parking area at the base of the hill. Parking is available for cars, bikes, and buses.

Walk 500m Uphill

Follow the pathway up the hill. The walk takes about 10-15 minutes. Carry water, secure your belongings from monkeys, and enjoy the scenic views of the Ambajidurga Hill Range.

Enter the Temple Complex

Remove footwear at the entrance. The 20,000 sq ft cave complex awaits with its interconnected chambers and sacred atmosphere.

Visit the Sacred Caves

Explore the interconnected caves housing nine magnificent deities: Chaturmukha Lingeshwara, Vallabha Ganapathi, Goddess Jagadambe, Nataraja, Vishnu, KalaSamhara, Ardha Nareeshwara, Lakshmi, and Saraswathi.

Attend Puja

Join the morning puja (7 AM), Rudra Abhishekam (8 AM), or evening puja (5:30 PM). You can also book a special seva for your family.

Free Meals (Anna Danam)

If visiting between 12 PM and 3 PM, partake in the sacred Anna Danam -- free vegetarian meals served to all visitors. This tradition has been running since 2001.

Return with Blessings

Walk back downhill to your vehicle. Consider visiting nearby attractions like Kaiwara temples (7 km) or Ambajidurga Fort (3 km) on your way back.
